A 1880s Historical Landmark, Victorian Mansion is downtown Toronto's most unique accommodations, providing hospitality to travellers since 1915. The hotel has a rich and colourful history recognized by the Toronto Historical Board. It was originally built as a private home for the Gooderham family in 1882. In 1910, a large multi-room complex was added to the Victorian mansion, and was transformed into an exclusive girl's school today's Branson Hall. In 1915 the property was converted into a residential hotel; during the 1920's, Ernest Hemingway and his wife Hadley resided at the hotel. Today the hotel features 82 completely renovated guestrooms. The hotel is conveniently located close to shopping, dining, sightseeing, and Sherbourne subway station located across the street. The hotel offers in-room coffee, cable TV, free local calls, data ports, iron & board, hairdryers in every room and Continental breakfast included. Located across the street from the Sherbourne subway station for easy access to most attractions and also within walking distance to the Yorkville Shopping District and Restaurants.

For a budget hotel, you get what you pay for. My stay in the clarion was by no means unpleasant, but by no means extravagant either. The bed caused me a little discomfort, but aside from that, I can't complain. The location of the hotel was very good though. Overall, you get what you pay for, and I would have to say for the money spent, I got a good deal.

it is definitely good value for money given its proximity to the city center. breakfast was included in the price which is great. would recommend it to those who only want a place to sleep which is safe and closed to the center.

The hotel room was clean. The breakfast buffet area was roomy, and well stocked with a wide assortment of food choices. The hotel was was within 15 minutes walking distance of Yorkville area and Jonge Streets: lots of restaurants and shops. The parking was great. We would would definitely stay here again.

It was acceptable. OK value. Close to everything. Almost met my expectations. Liked that it came w/breakfast which was again OK.... Had to pay $13/day for parking

Recommend it to those who do not plan on spending much time in their room or in the hotel. Beds and bedding were very comfortable. Slight tinge of smoke in a non-smoking room. Musty hallways and stairs, tiny elevator. Parts of The hotel are literally on their last legs - according to one of the maintenance workers the part not part of the original mansion is slated for demolition and the mansion itself is due for a multi-million dollar expansion into a five star suite hotel. (to which it seems poorly suited as it's not that mansiony of a mansion as compared to say, the hotel St. James in Montreal

The location combined with the price is what made it desirable for my purposes - a multi-day stay with my ten year old daughter from which to do some sightseeing - a place with a bit of character.
