The Harlem Branch (officially named in 1936) of the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA), was constructed on 135th Street in 1932, as a successor to the ""colored Men's Branch"" of the YMCA which was located on West 53rd Street 1901 and 1919, and the West 135th Street Branch YMCA, built in 1919 at no. 181, across the street from the later building. Reviews of YMCA Harlem - Shared Facilities New York

Review by: ani_, Helsinki, Finland

Stayed: Oct 2008

Customer Rating:

The facilities were ok, nothing more. The staff was wonderfull, them I give 10/10. The room 5/10. The linen were clean, also the towels, but the floor hadn't been cleaned in God knows how long. There were receipts from some former guests on the floor, and dust in the corner that was at least a few decades old. I had anticipated that the bed cover would be not top notch, so I had brought my own, and I do recommend that if you stay there, take your own pillow and cover, those two are not really things you would like to touch. The toilets were cleaned every day, so no problem there. Don't let the harlem part scare you, it's really a nice neighborhood and there's a metro station at the end of the street, and if you like to walk, you only need about 30 minutes to centralpark.
